Too much noise prevents locking
Weak sensory contact, long delays, competing tempos and large individual differences can keep a group fragmented. Synchrony is a dynamical outcome, not an inevitable instinct.
06 · MOVING TOGETHER CAN FEEL SOCIAL
Moving together can feel social
Experiments and field studies associate synchrony with affiliation and cooperation. The effects depend on context and measurement; coordinated movement is not proof that a group shares beliefs or intentions.
